Ported subwoofer enclosure for 4 Phoenix Gold XS subs.

Here’s a few pictures of a subwoofer enclosure I helped design for my friend Rick.  Since he needs to use the back of his Suburban to haul things occasionally the box needed to be easily removable, yet it still had to be large enough to hold 4 Phoenix Gold XS 12 inch subs.  Here’s what I came up with.

what are the dimensions of that box? I recently purchased four phoenix gold xs 124’s myself believe it or not?

    • Warren,

Offhand I don’t recall the exterior dimensions – I’d have to look for my notes – but each sub sits in 2.3 cubic feet of airspace and the ports are tuned at 35 hertz.

There’s a good free box software called WinISD – it’s what I’ve used to design a lot of my boxes. You can find WinISD at : http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=WinISD

Lastly, there’s a good Phoenix Gold specific forum at http://www.phoenixphorum.com/ if you should need help with your build.

Thanks Jeremy. I have been too busy to build a box yet, although I do plan to. How do the subs sound? can you compare them to something?

      • I’m trying to think of something to compare them to, but offhand I’m drawing a blank. The best description I can come up with at the moment is that they’re a musical sub. They’re not a heavy SPL sub like a Kicker L7 or something of the such. That’s not to say that they won’t get loud, but they’re a crisp, clean sounding speaker.
